The GL65 Leopard shares its original design with MSI’s pricier GS75 Stealth, only our review unit comes with a few curves on the lid. The two also share dimensions, 1.1 x 14.1 x 9.8 inches. Although not as thin as the Asus Zephyrus or Razor Blade 15, this notebook is hardly chunky. For display bezels, they come as they get.
Looks like, the 10SFK-062 sinks into gamer clichés with its red and black color scheme. Most come with some accents on the red chassis, and at the moment, the look on this machine is ancient, aside from the MSI diversion brand on the lid (backlit deactivated by the screen). Even if understood, it would be nothing wrong with a gaming laptop.
MSI’s ports are located on its edges – although this is not ideal. Good selection conditions make for the inconvenience, however. On the left facet, you have got associate ethernet jack, HDMI and mini DisplayPort video outputs; USB 3.2 Type-A and Type-C ports; And separate headphone and microphone jacks.
Meanwhile, the right edge has two more USB 3.2 Type-A ports, a full-size SD card reader, and a power connector.
The GL65 packs a display that should be a value-oriented gaming rig. In addition to its 1080p resolution that is perfect for gameplay with the GeForce RTX 2070, the gameplay is enhanced by its bright and colorful picture, anti-glare surface, and IPS technology that has a wider viewing angle.
The panel’s refresh rate 144Hz is often supported in deluxe gaming screens, and it really matters a lot. Outside of some less demanding export titles, the RTX 2070 is definitely going to surpass 60 frames per second (fps) in modern games.
Keyboard & Touchpad
The MSI GL65 sells upscale models in the line with per-key backlighting and is the highlight here. If you have recently used the MSI Gaming Laptop, then it is familiar with a pleasant rubber feel and enough significant travel. For the design, the Windows key on the left is missing, all things considered, you have a preinstalled MSI Dragon Center utility that allows you to trade its usefulness with the Fn key on the correct side of the space bar.
There is a dedicated button on the top right of the keyboard that complements the Dragon center, and a power button next to it, and another to engage maximum fan speed. The keyboard is designed in conjunction with peripheral manufacturer SteelSeries and means that you have additional software support to adjust your gaming profile accordingly.
The giant touchpad of the GL65 is located on the left side of the touchpad. It is prepared only by its extremely loud button clicks, otherwise, it works fine. Sometimes, you can click to tap yourself on the pad to avoid noise.
It lacks built-in biometric features, a disadvantage it shares with many other gaming laptops. At any rate, the MSI GL65 Leopard 10SFK-062 with regards to its 720p webcam gives a fair picture in the correct light. On the audio side, the MSI pair of high-resolution speakers provide quality sound output, but they cannot completely replace a pair of quality headphones.
Not amazingly, the MSI GL65 Leopard 10SFK-062 may be a performance beast. The item is packed with the latest 10th generation Intel i7-10750H processor and RTX 2070 graphics on top of 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. You will keep trying and keep trying, and nothing truly slows down this laptop. Even when playing Battlefield V at maximum settings and a dozen Chrome tabs running in the background, the MSI GL65 doesn’t show that much hiccup.
And because it’s an RTX-powered laptop, if you don’t turn on the juicy RTX features, you won’t be able to live with it yourself. Both Tomb Raider’s Battlefield V and Shadow are fully playable with their Kiran feature. We regularly see 80-plus FPS in Battlefield V with these features, which means that high-refreshing gaming with these features is entirely possible – at least 1080p. The shade of Tomb Raider fares quite well with an average of 94 fps, and it is too much for a stick to shake and play 100%.
At this level of power, the MSI GL65 Leopard can easily function as both a gaming powerhouse of a hard-core gamer and a workstation for a creative professional. As previously stated, the Just-OK 1080p display significantly supports the laptop in delivering some incredibly smooth gameplay in the latest titles that use Nvidia’s ray tracing dynamic lighting technology.
Like most (indeed all) gaming laptops, the 10SFK-062 achieves shorter battery life than its predecessors. Whether you’re playing your favorite game or watching 1080p video, the 6-cell 51Whr battery lasts no more than 5 hours 31 minutes on a single charge. These numbers put this laptop far behind in competing for thinner and lighter gaming laptops, which were long overdue.
Our Rating | Excellent
The MSI GL65 Leopard 10SFK-062 is reasonably priced, but MSI has added more value to its high-power gaming laptop than ever before. If you happen to spend the necessary amount of money, pay attention to the fact that you are carrying a gaming package with unmatched gaming and productivity muscle.
- Impressive hardware mix for the money.
- 144Hz display
- Per-key backlighting
- GeForce RTX 2070 GPU
- 512GB storage is a little tight for gaming
- Some ports located too near the user
The MSI GL65 Leopard is hard to fault with. While not as thin as competing notebooks like the Asus Zephyrus M, the physical construction is attractive, it still feels strong in all places, taking advantage of its portability with the battery. The overall performance is excellent, and while it falls behind high-end laptops in 3D capability, it is still a 1080p-capable machine. Given the price range of our review model, the MSI GL65 does not attract any real warning or sacrifice.
The reality is that not everyone can pay for a laptop costing more than $ 2000, which makes many gamers willing to accept a point on performance to cut costs. For those people, the MSI GL65 Leopard 10SFK-062 is a definite great option. It ranks among our top picks for mid-range gaming laptops, for an excellent combination of price, power, and performance.
